Italianate Landscape with Ruins Coast
Karl du Jardin, signed bottom right The artist was a Dutch Italianate painters who, apprently, was in Italy in the 1640s, and in France in early 1650s, before returning to Amsterdam by 1652. The present picture dates from that period, with typically imposing, yet sensitively rendered ancient ruins and banked ships against detailed seascape; a sunset rendered in dramatic colours and chiaroscuro.
