Rustic English Rural Landscape
George Morland (1763 – 1804) is one of the few Genre painters of the English school who successfully followed and adapted the style of the Dutch artists, David Teniers and Adriaen Brouwer. Like Torrentius , he also died in prison. Similar to the Netherlands painters and his contemporary Joshua Reynolds, he combined active artistic activity with commercial picture dealing. Excessive drinking and financial debts stress ensured that his life was brief.
